Microsoft Corp. has alerted the public to a sophisticated campaign of supply-chain attacks being waged by a Chinese hacking group.
The company’s threat intelligence division reported in a Wednesday blog post that the group, identified as Silk Typhoon, has been focusing on compromising remote management tools and cloud applications.
According to Microsoft, the attackers are using these compromised systems to conduct espionage against a variety of companies and organizations both within the United States and internationally.
The primary objective of these attacks appears to be gathering intelligence on U.S. policy and ongoing investigations.
