A U.S. federal judge in New York has granted Microsoft Corp.’s motion to dismiss a patent infringement lawsuit filed by SafeCast Ltd. The suit concerned a system designed to protect minors from inappropriate streaming advertisements.
Judge Margaret M. Garnett ruled that SafeCast had been too slow to replace its withdrawing legal counsel. According to an order issued Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Judge Garnett “explicitly warned” SafeCast’s CEO and co-founder, Alistair Kelman, that his British tech firm had 30 days to replace Texas-based patent lawyers Bill Ramey and David J. Hoffman. Ramey’s firm had reportedly complained of “nonpayment of fees.”
SafeCast failed to meet the deadline set by the court, leading to the dismissal of the case.
