A federal judge in New York has dismissed a patent infringement lawsuit filed by SafeCast Ltd. against Microsoft Corp. over a system designed to protect minors from inappropriate streaming advertisements. Judge Margaret M. Garnett ruled in favor of Microsoft, citing SafeCast’s failure to promptly replace its legal counsel.
According to a court order issued Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, Judge Garnett “explicitly warned” SafeCast’s CEO and co-founder, Alistair Kelman, that his British tech firm had 30 days to find new legal representation. This warning followed the withdrawal of Texas-based patent lawyers Bill Ramey and David J. Hoffman, whose firm cited “nonpayment of fees.”
