Microsoft’s expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in Malaysia remains on schedule, according to the company. Despite monitoring developments concerning US export restrictions on semiconductor technology, Microsoft’s operations in the country have not been impacted, a company executive said.

Laurence Si, Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia, confirmed on March 20th at a press conference that the company’s investments, including the forthcoming cloud region launch, are proceeding as planned. Microsoft is committed to deploying AI services and digital infrastructure according to schedule, ensuring Malaysia benefits from the latest technological advancements.
Si acknowledged that Microsoft is assessing market demand regarding the incorporation of its latest AI chips within Malaysia’s cloud region. Reflecting industry interest, he added, “If there is a market for it, it will be incorporated into the framework and timeline for Malaysia.”

The matter was discussed during a March 20th courtesy visit from representatives of Klickl, a company operating in the digital and blockchain ecosystem. The Prime Minister highlighted Malaysia’s significant potential in blockchain, spanning applications in finance, digital assets, government services, and the halal industry.
