Mitch Gainer has been named director at NextEra Energy Investments, assuming leadership of the company’s climate technology startup investments. Gainer joins NextEra after a two-year tenure at Yield Capital Partners.
“My role will focus on connecting early-stage energy innovation from the venture ecosystem with NextEra’s industry-leading capabilities,” Gainer shared in a LinkedIn post.
NextEra Energy Investments is actively backing startups in various climate tech sectors, including renewable energy, hydrogen, mobility solutions, and decarbonization initiatives. The firm’s investment strategy also extends to enterprise software companies specializing in cybersecurity, big data, cloud computing, customer service, and software-as-a-service models, alongside broader social impact investments.
The portfolio includes investments in companies like Infinium, a manufacturer of low-carbon synthetic e-fuels; Landgate, a land-leasing platform provider for renewable energy projects; and Monolith, a developer of carbon black and hydrogen technology. Prior to joining NextEra Energy, Gainer served as a partner at Yield Capital Partners for two years, where he led the due diligence process for investments in climate tech and digital infrastructure. Before that, he held positions as principal and associate partner at Activate Consulting, following a prior role as senior associate at Yield Capital Partners.
