MYAVANA Brings Personalized Hair Care to Africa
MYAVANA, the innovative hair care company spearheaded by Candace Victoria Mitchell, is expanding its reach to Africa with the opening of its first brick-and-mortar store, the MYAVANA Hair Lab, in Uganda.

This move signifies MYAVANA’s debut beauty-tech retail franchise, offering customized hair care solutions for the African market. Mitchell’s vision, fueled by a $1,000 investment, centers on improving hair health for Black women, addressing the historical lack of personalized products and resources. “Originally, my ‘why’ was really to provide a more personalized approach for people to really be seen and heard in the beauty industry,” Mitchell stated. The company is committed to ensuring people understand who are, using technology to tailor their hair care.
The company offers MYAVANA HairAI, which provides an in-depth hair analysis and gives product suggestions based on hair type and texture. HairAI assesses hair conditions and creates custom care plans including products and ingredients. MYAVANA also developed the MYAVANA HairScope™, a device for stylists which detects issues such as build-up or breakage.
The Uganda location will provide 1:1 consultations with hair experts, access to the HairAI analysis, educational content, and product recommendations. The shop also aims to support Black-owned hair care brands. These brands include Moisture Love, Texture Crush, Afro Unicorn, U Go Girl Hair, and LushUs Hair.
Mitchell emphasized the company’s dedication to reversing the historical loss of equity and ownership. “We want to change that,” she said. “We’re putting black-owned hair care brands front and center and providing them with strategic opportunities to foster community engagement and drastically increase global distribution.”
