Nashville Tech Executive Amy Gleason Named DOGE Administrator
Nashville-based health technology executive Amy Gleason has been appointed as the administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), according to reports. The announcement, confirmed by the White House on Tuesday, marks a significant development in the restructuring of the U.S. Digital Service.
Gleason’s LinkedIn profile indicates she is based in Nashville and has served as a senior advisor in the U.S. Digital Service since January. The DOGE was formally established through a day-one executive order by the previous administration. This order rebranded and converted the Digital Service, an executive branch entity, into DOGE, though the exact timing of Gleason’s assumption of her role and her specific duties remain unclear.
From 2021 to 2024, Gleason worked with Russell Street Ventures, a Nashville-based health technology startup focused on improving rural health care. A key initiative of Russell Street Ventures is Main Street Health, which partners with rural doctors and pharmacists to offer advanced digital healthcare and prescription services. Brad Smith, the founder of Russell Street Ventures and former director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, also works for DOGE.
Gleason attended the University of Tennessee in 1993 and is a graduate of Brentwood High School, according to her LinkedIn profile. In 2015, the Obama administration recognized Gleason as a “Champion of Change” for her work as chief operating officer of CareSync, where she focused on improving patient care coordination and health outcomes.
Her career includes experience in nursing prior to her move into technology. From 2018 to 2021, she served as a digital services expert for the U.S. Digital Service. Additionally, Gleason has been operating her own consulting firm in the Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida area since 2018.
From 2014 to 2018, Gleason was vice president of research for the Cure JM Foundation, a charity working to find a cure for juvenile myositis, a rare autoimmune disease.
The DOGE’s organizational structure has been somewhat opaque, with the White House stating that Elon Musk oversees the department in his capacity as a senior advisor. Attempts to reach Gleason by phone on Tuesday afternoon were unsuccessful. CBS News reported that when contacted Tuesday morning, Gleason stated she was in Mexico and declined to comment further.
