The White House has named Amy Gleason, a Nashville-based health technology executive, as the administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Gleason’s appointment was confirmed on Tuesday. Her LinkedIn profile indicates she is based in Nashville and has served as a senior advisor in the U.S. Digital Service since January.
To formally establish DOGE, a day-one executive order by Trump was used to rebrand and convert the Digital Service, an executive branch entity, into DOGE. Details regarding Gleason’s official start date and specific duties remain unclear.
From 2021 to 2024, Gleason worked for Russell Street Ventures, a Nashville-based health technology startup and business incubator focused on enhancing rural healthcare, according to her LinkedIn. One of its initiatives is Main Street Health, which collaborates with rural physicians and pharmacists for advanced digital healthcare and prescription services. Russell Street Ventures was founded by Brad Smith, the former director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation during Trump’s first administration. USA Today reports that Smith also works for DOGE.
Gleason is a graduate of the University of Tennessee (1993) and Brentwood High School, as stated on her LinkedIn profile.
In 2015, the Obama administration recognized Gleason as a “Champion of Change” for her role as chief operating officer of CareSync, acknowledging her efforts “to help patients and their families better coordinate care and improve health outcomes.” An archived White House page details that Gleason began her career in nursing before transitioning to technology.
Prior to her current role, she worked for the U.S. Digital Service from 2018 to 2021 as a digital services expert. Additionally, since 2018, Gleason has operated her own consulting company in the Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida area, according to her LinkedIn.
From 2014 to 2018, Gleason served as the vice president of research for the Cure JM Foundation, which is dedicated to finding a treatment for juvenile myositis, a rare autoimmune disease.
The organizational structure of DOGE remains undefined. The White House has indicated Elon Musk is overseeing the department as a senior advisor. Efforts to reach Gleason on Tuesday afternoon by phone were unsuccessful. CBS News reported that Gleason was in Mexico and declined to comment when reached Tuesday morning.
