Netflix Discontinues Support for Older Amazon Fire TV Stick Models
Netflix has announced that it will be dropping support for the first-generation Amazon Fire TV Sticks, which were initially launched more than 10 years ago. The decision affects devices including the original Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote.

The company has begun notifying affected users via email, with US customers facing a cutoff date of June 3. According to Amazon spokesperson Jen Lurey Ridings, “Netflix will be discontinuing support for some first-generation Fire TV devices, which were introduced more than 10 years ago.” Netflix remains available on all other Fire TV devices.
Users can check if their device is affected by navigating to the “About” section in Settings > My Fire TV. Those with incompatible devices may be eligible for a discount on newer Fire TV Stick models, at least in the US.
This move is consistent with Netflix’s practice of ending support for older devices that can no longer receive necessary updates or support new features. The first-generation Fire TV devices, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 chipset and running on Fire OS 8, have 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
Error codes R4, R12, or R25-1 indicate that a device is no longer supported or will be discontinued after a certain date. This isn’t Netflix’s first instance of dropping support for older devices; the company has previously discontinued support for old DVD players, Blu-ray players, video game consoles, TVs, and tablets in recent years.
