Palantir Technologies Inc. (NYSE: PLTR) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) today announced a significant expansion of their partnership, poised to deliver sophisticated cloud, AI, and analytics capabilities to the U.S. Defense and Intelligence Community.
This groundbreaking, integrated technology suite represents a first-of-its-kind offering, enabling critical national security missions to leverage Microsoft’s cutting-edge large language models (LLMs) via the Azure OpenAI Service. This integration will occur within Palantir’s AI Platforms (AIP), specifically within Microsoft’s government and classified cloud environments.
Palantir and Microsoft have collaborated for years, consistently delivering advanced technology solutions within secure and accredited environments, supporting the most critical U.S. Defense and Intelligence missions. This enhanced partnership will see Palantir deploying its comprehensive product suite—Foundry, Gotham, Apollo, and AIP—within Microsoft Azure Government, as well as within the Azure Government for Secret (DoD Impact Level 6) and Top Secret clouds. Furthermore, Palantir will be among the first to adopt Azure’s OpenAI Service within Microsoft’s Secret and Top Secret environments.
This integrated solution combines Microsoft’s Azure cloud compute infrastructure with powerful language models such as GPT-4, alongside Palantir’s Foundry data integration and ontology capabilities, and AIP’s use case building modules. This combination will enable operators to develop AI-driven operational workloads safely and responsibly across a range of Defense and Intelligence sectors—from logistics and contracting to prioritization and strategic planning. Availability of the services is contingent upon authorization and accreditation by the appropriate government agencies.
“Bringing Palantir and Microsoft capabilities to our national security apparatus is a step change in how we can support the defense and intelligence communities,” said Shyam Sankar, Chief Technology Officer at Palantir. “Palantir AIP has pioneered the approach to operationalizing AI value – beyond chat — across the enterprise. It’s our mission to deliver this software advantage and we’re thrilled to be the first industry partner to deploy Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service in classified environments.”
Deb Cupp, President of Microsoft Americas, highlighted the importance of the expanded partnership. “This expanded partnership between Microsoft and Palantir will help accelerate the safe, secure and responsible deployment of advanced AI capabilities for the U.S. government,” Cupp stated. “Palantir, a leader in delivering actionable insights to government, will now leverage the power of Microsoft’s government and classified clouds and robust Azure OpenAI models to further develop AI innovations for national security missions.”
Additionally, the Palantir Federal Cloud Service, encompassing its Gotham, Foundry, AIP, Apollo, and FedStart Mission Manager Platforms, is authorized for deployment on Microsoft Azure in IL5 environments.
Both Palantir and Microsoft adhere to stringent standards, including the integration of responsible privacy measures and ethical AI practices into their respective technologies. These values reflect the companies’ commitment to addressing the complex technological challenges faced by public and private sector institutions as they adopt the latest technologies to advance their missions and maintain a competitive edge.
As part of this partnership, Palantir and Microsoft will be hosting bootcamp experiences for the Defense and Intelligence Community to facilitate hands-on use of the technology. For more information and to sign up for a bootcamp, visit their website.
