Pat Gelsinger Steps into Executive Chairman Role at Gloo
Following his departure as Intel’s chief executive late last year, Pat Gelsinger has taken on new responsibilities at Gloo, a technology company focused on faith-based initiatives. Gelsinger has become the executive chairman and head of technology, overseeing product development with a specific focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications.
This marks Gelsinger’s first major role since leaving Intel in December. He previously served on Gloo’s board since 2018 and is also an investor in the company.
“Now more than ever, there is great need for faith-based communities to take an active role in ensuring we shape technology as a force for good,” Gelsinger stated. “As we have seen with social media, the impact of technology evolutions is swift, deep and long lasting. AI is an even more powerful yet nascent tool. It is imperative we ensure AI is used to enhance the human experience, not harm it.”
Gelsinger has expressed Gloo’s commitment to utilizing AI to create tools that support faith-based communities and their members. The company has announced that it will be using the AI model from the Chinese start-up DeepSeek for its own AI chatbot, Kallm, citing its open-source licensing model and ease of integration.
Gelsinger said that Gloo’s focus “perfectly aligns with my own sense of purpose”.
AI-Powered Tools for Ministries
Gloo, founded in 2013, secured $110 million (£85m) in growth financing last year. The company is developing AI tools, including chatbots with a “safe search” filter and responses based on Christian principles. Gloo also provides a digital workspace that aids church ministry leaders in organizing content, communications, and outreach strategies. Additionally, Gloo’s AI serves to assist churches in connecting with their existing members and reaching new individuals.
Gelsinger’s move to Gloo follows his tenure as Intel’s chief executive, where he reportedly clashed with the board over the company’s turnaround strategy. Intel appointed Lip-Bu Tan, a board member, as its new chief executive this month.
