{ “title”: “Pentagon Blames AI for Erasing Black History and DEI Content Under Trump”, “description”: “The Pentagon attributed the removal of content celebrating Black history and diversity to AI, sparking accusations of historical erasure under the Trump administration.”, “tags”: “Donald Trump, Pentagon, DEI, AI, censorship, Jackie Robinson”, “rewritten_content”: “Following the removal of articles honoring Jackie Robinson’s World War II military service, Black Medal of Honor recipient Army Maj. Gen. Charles Calvin Rogers, and numerous other pages highlighting contributions by women and minority groups, the Department of Defense (DOD) attributed the takedowns to the use of artificial intelligence.

According to a spokesperson, the Pentagon was combing through a massive amount of content due to the Trump administration’s efforts to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) content from federal agencies. Sean Parnell, U.S. Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, admitted that “Every now and then, because of the realities of AI tools and other software, some important content was incorrectly pulled offline to be reviewed.”
“We want to be very, very clear, history is not DEI when content is either mistakenly removed or if it’s maliciously removed, we continue to work quickly to restore it,” Parnell stated. He also criticized former President Joe Biden’s administration’s efforts to address minority underrepresentation, calling it a “zealous and destructive commitment to DEI” that “divided our nation.”
Since returning to the White House, Trump has issued multiple executive orders to purge the government of anything related to DEI, leading to a widespread effort to remove DEI references from government websites and social media accounts. The removal of pages featuring veterans such as Robinson and Rogers sparked backlash. Author Michael Embrich wrote in a commentary for Rolling Stone, “This pattern of racial cleansing from the Department of Defense’s historical record is not just disturbing — it is dangerous.” He added that these actions “will lead to morale and recruitment problems, compounding the broader crisis of an all-out demagogic assault on the contributions of historic military figures.”
While the pages were later restored, the removal process details remained unclear. Last month, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the Pentagon to remove all diversity-promoting content and fired several military leaders he deemed overly focused on diversity and equity.” }
