Perplexity, an AI conversational search engine, has added AI image generation to its platform using OpenAI’s model, recently released for ChatGPT. This integration allows users to receive visual content alongside text responses, enhancing their search experience.
The image generation feature is straightforward to use. Users can simply ask the AI to “generate an image of” something, and it will produce a visual based on the prompt. Perplexity offers three image generations per day for free users and unlimited generations for Perplexity Pro users. The AI model used for image generation is automatically selected by Perplexity, even if users don’t explicitly choose it from the model options.
In addition to image generation, Perplexity has expanded its capabilities by incorporating xAI’s Grok-3 model and OpenAI’s o4-mini model into its platform. This move aligns with Perplexity’s approach of curating various AI models to streamline access for users, rather than building everything from scratch. By offering multiple models, Perplexity caters to users who want to explore different AI tools without committing to a single one.
The integration of ChatGPT’s image generator is expected to enhance the user experience, particularly when the feature is integrated into the Perplexity mobile app’s voice assistant. This development comes as part of Perplexity’s ongoing efforts to improve its AI platform and provide users with a more comprehensive and engaging search experience.
