Putin Hits Out at Microsoft, Zoom Over ‘Anti-State’ Activities
Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused US technology companies, including Microsoft and Zoom, of taking an “anti-state” stance and suggested that their services should be “throttled” in Russia. The remarks came during a government meeting focused on technology policy, where Putin emphasized the need to develop domestic software solutions to reduce dependence on Western firms.
Putin’s comments were in response to a businessman’s proposal to limit access to major US-based tech platforms that have restricted or suspended operations in Russia following its military actions in Ukraine. “We must not tolerate platforms that undermine our sovereignty,” Putin stated. “We need to throttle them. I completely agree, and I say this without hesitation.”
The Russian leader’s statements have been made amid growing international isolation due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. US President Donald Trump has condemned Putin’s aggressive stance, stating that he has gone “crazy” over the war. French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a deadline for peace efforts and threatened “massive retaliation” if Moscow continues to disregard these efforts.

The situation has escalated further with Russia launching its largest drone attack on Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials. This development has drawn strong reactions from Western allies, who are considering new sanctions. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has described the latest strikes as “totally appalling” and announced plans for new punitive measures.
As tensions continue to rise, Putin remains firm in his stance, while facing increasing pressure from the international community to de-escalate the conflict.
