Kazakhstan’s AI Ascent

The International Monetary Fund’s 2023 rankings placed Kazakhstan among the top 50 countries globally for AI readiness, outpacing all other Central Asian nations. KAZ-LLM: A Localized Technological Breakthrough
A key project for QazCode is the KAZ-LLM, the first national language model developed in partnership with the Institute of Smart Systems and AI (ISSAI NU) and Astana Hub, and under the coordination of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan. KAZ-LLM aims to expand technology accessibility by overcoming linguistic barriers for underserved language groups. The model supports Kazakh, Russian, English, and Turkish and is considered a local version of GPT.
This achievement has already earned international recognition. The KAZ-LLM won the GSMA Foundry Excellence Award 2025 in the Artificial Intelligence category, underscoring its high quality and significance for technological progress. Based on 150 billion tokens, the KAZ-LLM leverages the computing power of 8 DGX H100 units, optimizing data processing and analysis speed. This model helps businesses develop AI-powered chatbots, customer support platforms, and data analysis tools. For instance, banks can expedite processing of requests in the local language while retailers can improve user experience.
QazCode actively collaborates with prominent international organizations like GSMA Foundry and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, adopting global best practices in AI. Moreover, QazCode announced the launch of Central Asia’s first GPU cloud in the summer of 2024, powered by NVIDIA technology, to facilitate AI product development.
