A robotic hair-washing system that has garnered significant attention in southern China is set to enter the Hong Kong market in June. Faxiaoka AI Hair Care, a brand owned by Guangdong Sheng Tai Health Technology Group, currently operates around 40 stores across Guangdong, Fujian, and Hunan provinces.
The Technology
The machine features a massage table equipped with electronic massagers and a helmet-shaped module for washing hair. High-pressure water tubes within the module clean hair from multiple directions, while a built-in therapy system uses low-level red light wavelengths to help treat skin conditions.
Current Experience
During a trial in mid-April at a Guangzhou store, a reporter experienced the service firsthand. The basic package, priced at less than 20 yuan (approximately US$2.70), lasted about 16 minutes. However, the process wasn’t fully automated – an assistant was required to start the machine and adjust settings according to customer preferences. Additionally, the system didn’t include a hair-drying function, necessitating a separate drying process.

Future Developments
He Qiufeng, founder and chairwoman of Guangdong Sheng Tai Health Technology Group, revealed that a second-generation system is under development. The new version will include a drying function and allow users to start the machine by scanning a QR code with their smartphones. Hong Kong’s first store, scheduled to open in June, will be equipped with six of these upgraded machines.
The development marks the brand’s expansion into the Hong Kong market after gaining popularity on the mainland. The enhancements address current limitations, promising a more streamlined and automated experience for future customers.
