$10 Billion Amazon Tech Hub Coming to Rockingham
A massive new tech hub is set to transform Rockingham in Richmond County, North Carolina. Amazon’s $10 billion investment will create a state-of-the-art cloud computing and artificial intelligence facility, bringing over 500 tech jobs to the area over the next five years. This monumental project stands as the largest single initial private investment in North Carolina’s history.
Governor Josh Stein expressed his enthusiasm for the development, stating, “Artificial intelligence is changing the way we work and innovate, and I am pleased that North Carolina will stay at the forefront of all that’s ahead as we continue to attract top technology companies like Amazon.” The project, previously codenamed ‘Blue Marlin,’ was unveiled at Cole Auditorium on June 4, 2025, by state officials who hailed it as one of North Carolina’s most significant investments to date.

“Richmond County is delighted to welcome Amazon to our community,” said Representative Ben Moss. “The new jobs created by this facility will change hundreds of lives for the better. Rural communities like ours can lead the way in technology advancements, including artificial intelligence, which is an ever-increasing presence in the world.”
Amazon already has a presence in North Carolina, operating a wind farm in Pasquotank and Perquimans counties and modernizing state computer systems. David Zapolsky, Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer, emphasized the impact of this investment: “Amazon’s $10 billion investment in North Carolina underscores our commitment to driving innovation and advancing the future of cloud computing and AI technologies. This investment will position North Carolina as a hub for cutting-edge technology, create hundreds of high-skilled jobs, and drive significant economic growth.”
Local leaders, including Rick Watkins of the Richmond County Board of Commissioners and Senator David Craven, have welcomed the project, highlighting its benefits for the local community. The new tech jobs are expected to offer good pay to area residents, improving prospects for hundreds of local families.
