Scranton Police Unveil New Surveillance Technology
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. — As Scranton prepared for its annual Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations, FOX56 was granted exclusive access to view the Scranton City Police Department’s newly implemented surveillance technology, designed to enhance public safety.

Inside the Scranton City Police command room, a team of city officers, 911 operators, and state police monitored a network of cameras strategically placed across the city. The system now integrates live-feed body cameras worn by officers in the field, enabling hands-free communication with the command center.
“The tools we have continue to improve. We continue to make those investments as a city to make sure our officers and teams have all the information they can have and they can communicate together in real time, especially in moments like this where we have thousands of people in Scranton. There’s lots of fun festivities but it’s really important that we make sure everybody stays safe,” said Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti.
The new technology provides officers with a comprehensive, “birds-eye view” of the parade route and other high-traffic areas, such as Clay Avenue. The department aims to expand this surveillance footprint to ensure the safety and security of the community during events of all sizes.
