Shopify Revolutionizes E-commerce with AI-Powered Tools
Shopify has launched a suite of innovative AI-powered tools designed to help merchants enhance their online stores and improve customer shopping experiences. The updates were announced during Shopify’s Edition launch day, the company’s biannual showcase of platform changes.
The new AI store builder allows merchants to create a fully functional storefront using a single prompt, eliminating the need for extensive technical knowledge. Users simply enter a description of their brand, such as “tennis gear and stylish athleisure,” and the AI generates a ready-to-launch website. Merchants can then customize their store within the editor, personalizing it to their specific needs.

To complement this feature, Shopify has introduced a new public theme called “Horizon” in its Theme Store. This theme includes built-in AI assistance, enabling merchants to adjust their store designs effortlessly. Horizon is the first theme to incorporate “Theme Blocks,” modular building blocks that allow for code-free customization of online stores. These blocks can be further tailored using AI, enabling merchants to create complex elements like animated banners with simple text descriptions.

In addition to these features, Shopify has upgraded its AI commerce assistant, Sidekick. The updated Sidekick now supports voice chat and screen sharing, allowing merchants to interact with it more naturally. Users can ask questions about topics like tariffs and receive audible responses with relevant resources. The screen sharing feature helps navigate the platform’s features, such as finding settings.
These enhancements come as Shopify continues to invest heavily in AI technology. According to the company, Sidekick’s monthly users have more than doubled since the beginning of 2025. Shopify’s CEO, Tobi Lütke, has previously hinted that AI could help the company maintain a leaner workforce, underscoring its commitment to integrating AI solutions across its platform.
The new AI-powered tools and features are designed to streamline the process of creating and managing online stores, allowing merchants to focus on personalization and customer experience. By leveraging AI, Shopify aims to make e-commerce more accessible and efficient for businesses of all sizes.
