Siemens has appointed Vasi Philomin, a former Amazon executive, to its newly created position of head of data and artificial intelligence. The move is part of Siemens’ efforts to accelerate its transition into a technology-focused company, with a particular emphasis on AI and industrial software.
Philomin, who brings extensive experience in machine learning and large-scale AI applications from his time at Amazon, will report directly to Peter Koerte, Siemens’ managing board member and chief technology officer. Koerte praised Philomin’s “outstanding AI expertise and proven leadership in developing transformative technologies,” stating that he will make a significant contribution to expanding Siemens’ data and AI capabilities.
This appointment follows Siemens’ recent partnership with Microsoft to leverage AI and enhance productivity and human-machine collaboration across various industries, including manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare. The collaboration aims to create AI-powered copilots that assist customer companies in designing new products and managing production and maintenance.
Siemens’ Industrial Copilot is one of the AI products the company is developing. The technology is designed to assist staff at customer companies as they design new products and organize production and maintenance.
