The Forth Valley Sensory Centre (FVSC) in Camelon recently hosted the 19th iteration of the Vision Zone exhibition, showcasing the latest assistive technology for individuals living with sight-loss. The event, facilitated by Optelec, brought together various specialist organizations, including Newsline, the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), Triple Tap Tech, the Macular Society, and Orcam, to provide expert demonstrations, advice, and insights to attendees.

Thirty people attended the event, which has become a regular occurrence at FVSC. The centre supports over 20,000 individuals annually and has been serving the community in central Scotland, including Stirling and Clackmannanshire, for over 15 years. FVSC acts as a community hub, offering a range of services such as support, advice, practical help, and social opportunities to people with sensory loss and their families.

The centre’s chief executive, Jacquie Winning, expressed her delight at hosting Vision Zone again, stating, “Events like this are vital to our centre users to see the support and technology that is available to them.” She added that the positive feedback received from attendees highlighted the significant impact these technologies can have on their daily lives.

FVSC provides various activities, groups, and classes to help individuals with sensory loss live independently. These include IT and tech support, cookery classes, visits, excursions, and sign and lip-reading classes. The centre also offers volunteering opportunities to boost skills and confidence.

The event demonstrated the centre’s commitment to supporting people with sensory loss and its role as a vital community resource.
