Stryker (NYSE: SYK) has unveiled the Sync Badge, a hands-free, wearable device created to streamline communication within care teams. Designed to enhance collaboration in direct patient care, this device allows healthcare professionals to connect using voice commands, facilitating quicker and more dependable communication. The launch of the Sync Badge addresses the ongoing challenges of nursing shortages, a critical issue in many healthcare environments.

The Sync Badge represents Stryker’s latest product offering following its $3.1 billion acquisition of Vocera Communications in 2022. The device’s functionality is activated by a “wake word,” allowing users to connect with team members by name, role, or group using voice commands. The system also features urgent broadcast capabilities to quickly summon assistance or initiate rapid response protocols.
For added safety, the Sync Badge includes a dedicated panic button. This feature allows security personnel to view the staff member’s location and hear the surrounding environment, enabling immediate communication if possible. Further features of the device include a “Do Not Disturb” mode and urgent call breakthrough options. It is also designed to integrate with connected devices and software platforms. Through integration with Vocera Engage middleware, the Sync badge can receive information from electronic health records (EHRs), nurse call systems, patient monitoring systems, and other connected devices.
“We strive to support the safety and wellbeing of care team members by designing intuitive solutions to help make their lives easier,” stated Scott Sagehorn, VP and GM of Stryker’s Acute Care business. “The Sync Badge bridges gaps to ensure care team members remain hands-on where they’re needed most – with their patients.”
