Tech Giants Pledge to Boost Nuclear Energy Capacity
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Several major technology companies have joined forces to support a global initiative aimed at significantly expanding nuclear energy capabilities. The pledge, spearheaded by the World Nuclear Association, calls for a tripling of nuclear energy capacity worldwide by 2050.
The commitment was announced during CERAWeek 2025, an annual energy conference that brings together prominent industry figures.
Among the companies that have signed the pledge, including Meta, Amazon, and Google. Additionally, fourteen major global banks, including Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Bank of America, have also thrown their support behind the initiative. “We are proud to sign a pledge in support of tripling nuclear capacity by 2050, as nuclear power will be pivotal in building a reliant, secure, and sustainable energy future,” Google stated. The company added that they “will continue to work alongside our partners to accelerate the commercialization of advanced nuclear technologies that can provide the around-the-clock clean energy necessary to meet growing electricity demand around the world.”
Meta also expressed its commitment to the effort. “As global economies expand, the need for a reliable, clean, and resilient energy supply is paramount. Nuclear energy, with its ability to provide continuous power, can help meet this rising demand. We’re excited to join alongside this multi-organizational effort with the Tripling Nuclear Pledge to reiterate our commitment to nuclear energy,” a Meta representative said.
Pledge organizers anticipate that participation will grow. They noted, “The Pledge is expected to gain more support over the coming months, reflecting growing interest in nuclear power from industries as diverse as maritime, aviation, chemical and oil & gas.”
