The Hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto
For fifteen years, the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin, has remained a closely guarded secret. The name, a pseudonym, represents a person or group that introduced a revolutionary technology to the world without claiming credit or profiting from its multibillion-dollar success. The author, a journalist, embarked on a journey to seek out Nakamoto, attempting to understand the motivations behind this unprecedented anonymity.
The author’s journey began in 2011, around the time of the launch of the internet-based currency that operates beyond the control of governments or banks. The author’s quest led them to Australia, where they discovered a former programmer named James A. Donald, who the author believed was involved in the creation of Bitcoin.
James A. Donald was a cypherpunk who had worked in Australia, and Silicon Valley. He had a very public presence expressing his ideas on digital money and cryptography, a domain in which Nakamoto was very heavily involved.
After a lengthy search, the author found Donald, who wouldn’t admit to the claims or provide much detail, stating only that he couldn’t share the information in the open.
The author was left with a lasting impression of the magnitude of Nakamoto’s achievement and the enigma of his disappearance.
