Long Beach’s “Space Beach” is gaining another prominent player with the announcement that True Anomaly Inc. will open a 90,000-square-foot factory in the city. The defense technology company, focusing on advanced space superiority systems, revealed its expansion plans, which include establishing a hub for new product development and vertical integration at the Long Beach site.
The official announcement was made during a press conference held in the City Hall lobby on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The event was attended by Mayor Rex Richardson, along with representatives from several other aerospace companies already located in the city, including Relativity Space, Rocket Lab, and Boeing.
“Long Beach is a significant expansion for us; it’s about three times the footprint,” said Mark Seidel, Chief Financial Officer of True Anomaly, comparing the new facility to their Colorado headquarters. “We do have plans to double our workforce this year and talent has been a major focus area for us.”
The new factory will not only house 20,000 square feet of office space for the company’s growing employee base, but it will also be used for developing and producing True Anomaly’s hardware and software systems. This expansion will allow the company to have expanded classified operations and proximity to a key customer in Space Systems Command.
Casey Harr, Head of New Product Development, emphasized the strategic importance of the new facility. “True Anomaly will utilize the Long Beach factory to develop and produce its hardware and software systems,” Harr stated. “We will allocate 70,000 square feet to design, develop and produce new space superiority solutions, unlocking significant manufacturing to support customer demand.”
Mayor Rex Richardson highlighted the positive impact of this expansion for Long Beach, saying, “True Anomaly’s decision to expand to Long Beach aligns with our vision of continuous growth and innovation…we are excited to welcome them to our growing ecosystem of cutting-edge companies here in Space Beach and look forward to the opportunities they will bring across defense, tech and aerospace that will make our community thrive.”
True Anomaly plans to hire engineers specializing in electrical systems and software, along with manufacturing, assembly, and testing personnel to staff the new Long Beach facility.
