According to an internal memo, President Donald J. Trump intends to rebrand the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as the US International Humanitarian Assistance (IHA). This reorganization will place the agency under the control of Secretary of State Marco Rubio as part of a wider campaign.

Beyond the name change, the President reportedly wants to heavily integrate cryptocurrency and blockchain technology into IHA operations. A memo seen by State Department staff suggests that blockchain will be used to provide secure and trackable transactions for international humanitarian aid, as reported by Politico.
While the exact plans remain unspecified, speculation suggests the administration may utilize cryptocurrencies and stablecoins for transactions.
The focus on blockchain technology is seen as a move to enhance transparency, traceability, and efficiency. It is anticipated that a blockchain ledger will be used to track aid disbursements and donations, a practice not yet common in humanitarian efforts.
During his campaign, President Trump vowed to make the United States the “crypto capital” of the world, emphasizing blockchain’s role in forging a new future. He has also expressed a desire to prioritize Bitcoin. Trump has taken several blockchain-related actions, including pardoning Ross Ulbricht and restructuring the SEC. He also signed his first crypto policy, which aims to create a more stable market, and assigned a working group to develop further regulations.
Integrating cryptocurrency into American life is a key goal for President Trump’s second term. Efforts include collaborations with related companies and the formulation of regulations.
