The UK’s competition watchdog has cleared Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI of needing further scrutiny.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced Wednesday it has ended its review, stating the deal doesn’t require a more detailed investigation based on the available evidence.
“Based on the evidence available to us, we are satisfied that the partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI does not qualify for a merger investigation,” the CMA said in a statement.
The CMA initiated the review following concerns about the partnership between the U.S. tech giant and OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. Last year, the watchdog looked into Microsoft’s investment in OpenAI.
The CMA also examined the partnership between Microsoft and Mistral AI.
