Use Samsung Galaxy AI Offline for Enhanced Privacy
Samsung’s Galaxy AI brings a bunch of cool features to recent Galaxy phones, like Live Translate and Note Assist. Most of the time, these features work by sending your info to the cloud. But, if you’re worried about keeping your data safe, there’s a way to use these AI tricks without sending anything to Samsung’s servers.

Why Go Offline with Galaxy AI?
The main reason for using Galaxy AI offline is simple: privacy. When everything is processed on your phone, your data stays with you. This means no one else sees it, including potential hackers that might try to get into Samsung’s systems. Plus, when things are processed locally, the features can work even when you’re not connected to the internet.
Samsung uses two key technologies here: Knox and the Personal Data Engine. Knox is an older security system that’s been around for a while, designed to keep personal info on Samsung devices safe from bad guys. While Knox was initially built for businesses, its features have trickled down to the Galaxy S series phones and other consumer products, keeping your personal data secure.
The Personal Data Engine, which launched with the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, studies your data from different apps to figure out what you like and how you use your phone. It uses this info for AI features without needing to connect to the cloud. All the data it gathers is encrypted and stored securely using Knox’s methods. This is a good way to get more out of Galaxy AI without sending your data elsewhere.
How to Turn On Offline Processing
Turning on on-device processing is simple.
- Open the Settings app on your Galaxy phone.
- Scroll down to find “Galaxy AI.”
- At the bottom, you’ll see a switch labeled “Process data only on device.” Flick that switch to the on position.
Once you do that, these Galaxy AI features will start working locally:
- Browsing assist: Summarize, Read highlights aloud
- Call assist: Live translate
- Writing assist: Chat translation, Composer, Style and grammar, Suggested replies
- Interpreter
- Note assist: Translate, Transcribe
- Photo assist: Sketch to edit, Portrait studio
- Transcript assist: Transcribe, Translate, Summary
Keep in mind that not every feature is available offline, like sketch-to-image. Also, when using offline, things might be a little slower compared to the cloud.
