The Global Council for Responsible Artificial Intelligence has selected Dr. Eman El-Sheikh, Associate Vice President of the University of West Florida (UWF) Center for Cybersecurity, as its Global Ambassador for the United States.
The Global Council for Responsible AI is an international governing body dedicated to fostering the development of ethical, secure, and beneficial artificial intelligence technologies. Their central mission is to lead and support worldwide efforts in developing AI that enhances societal well-being through inclusive dialogues, comprehensive standards, and international cooperation.
“As AI continues to advance and impact every aspect of society, there is an urgent need to develop ethical and responsible AI models that protect privacy and guard against unintended harmful consequences,” Dr. El-Sheikh stated. “As a Global Ambassador for the Council, I look forward to collaborating with distinguished AI and cybersecurity thought leaders from across the globe to build a responsible AI-enabled future.”
As Global Ambassador, Dr. El-Sheikh will utilize her extensive experience to advocate for the development of secure AI and responsible AI adoption that benefits society worldwide. Her role will involve guiding the ethical integration of AI into critical sectors, ensuring its alignment with societal well-being.
The pledge ceremony and inaugural meeting of the Council were held at the House of Lords in London, England, on February 20, 2025.
Dr. El-Sheikh is a globally recognized leader with over 30 years of expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cybersecurity. As AVP at the UWF Center for Cybersecurity, she has spearheaded transformative initiatives in cybersecurity and AI education and workforce development, including the establishment and leadership of the Cybersecurity for All Program and the National Cybersecurity Workforce Development Program, CyberSkills2Work.org.
