Woolpert Names Carl Lucas as New Chief Information Officer

DAYTON, Ohio, January 16, 2025 – Woolpert has announced the appointment of Carl Lucas as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO). In this role, Lucas will be responsible for overseeing the firm’s IT strategy, including the development, integration, and security of its global architecture, engineering, and geospatial (AEG) operations, as well as the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Working closely with Woolpert’s leadership team, Lucas will focus on strengthening the firm’s cybersecurity infrastructure and IT capabilities. He will also streamline IT integration processes for acquired companies and lead a comprehensive AI program. This program will support corporate services, internal IT, generative AI, and overall operational needs.

Lucas brings over three decades of IT experience to Woolpert, including a decade in the geospatial industry. He has provided IT leadership and strategic guidance to a range of tech startups, Fortune 500 corporations, and firms backed by private equity.

“I am honored to be joining Woolpert at this exciting time in the company’s growth,” Lucas stated. “I look forward to leading global IT initiatives and AI innovations that will support Woolpert’s strategic goals and add value for both our clients and employees.”

Prior to his role at Woolpert, Lucas served as the Vice President of Information Technology at NV5. There, he focused on technology advancement and scalability for the company’s geospatial solutions unit, managing its global networks, operations, cloud services, and IT security.

“Carl’s experience in leading technology organizations for innovative, rapidly growing companies aligns perfectly with Woolpert’s expanding global business,” said Neil Churman, Woolpert’s President. “He has the industry knowledge, business acumen, and innovative thinking to help us connect, protect, and scale our growing operations. We are delighted to welcome him to our team.”

Lucas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Astrophysics from the University of Rochester. He also earned professional certificates in Management and Leadership from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Stanford University. He will be based in Woolpert’s office located in the St. Pete Innovation District in St. Petersburg, Florida.
