Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will host its annual tech event, now renamed Xpeng AI Day, on November 6th. This marks a change from the company’s established practice of holding the event on October 24th over the past five years.

He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, announced the date change on Weibo, stating the event will take place at the South China University of Technology. He is a graduate of the Guangzhou-based institution. At Xpeng AI Day, Mr. He plans to share Xpeng’s most recent innovations and breakthroughs in the areas of AI cars, AI robots, and flying cars.
Xpeng initiated its 1024 Tech Day on October 24, 2019, subsequently establishing the date as an annual event. Highlights from last year’s event included the XNGP (Xpeng Navigation Guided Pilot) roadmap, a new flying car, and a bipedal robot. Xpeng chose the date because 1024 represents the 10th power of 2, which holds significance in computing and is also celebrated as Programmer’s Day in China. “1024, this number has a special meaning for Xpeng users. We are a group of people who love technology,” Mr. He wrote on Weibo today.
Looking ahead, Xpeng aims to develop into a global AI car company, as stated by Mr. He. He added that Xpeng is now geared towards global tech enthusiasts, inviting supporters around the world to experience the marvels of technology.
The change in date may be due to Xpeng’s busy month of October. The EV maker unveiled its new P7+ model at an event in Shenzhen on October 10th, and announced pre-sales for the model at the Paris auto show on October 14th. Executives, including Mr. He, were present at the Paris auto show. Additionally, on October 22nd, Xpeng launched two SUV models, the G6 and G9, in Dubai in partnership with Ali & Sons Holding LLC.
Xpeng’s competitor, Nio (NYSE: NIO), hosts the annual Nio Day, the date for which is determined by a community vote. Nio Day 2024 will take place in Guangzhou on December 21st, with plans to unveil the Firefly sub-brand, according to reports.
