YouTube Music’s ‘Ask Music’ AI Radio Now Available on iOS
Following its initial launch on Android in September, YouTube Music’s AI-powered “Ask Music” radio generator has expanded its availability to iPhone and iPad users.

Once the update rolls out, users will see an “Ask for music” shelf prominently displayed in the Home tab, near the top of the main feed. This shelf features a carousel of ten suggested prompts, allowing users to quickly generate a custom radio station with a single tap.

Users can also enter their own prompts using the “Ask any way you like” field, which includes a voice input shortcut. This lets users describe a desired mood, activity, or listening experience, and YouTube Music will generate a radio station accordingly. The platform provides example prompts, but longer, more detailed requests also work. The AI takes a few seconds to create the radio station using the existing station card interface. The station card conveniently displays the first three songs and enables autoplay, with an “Add to library” option for saving the station.

YouTube Music’s AI further enhances the user’s experience by generating a short description for each AI-created station.

This new feature complements the existing Music Tuner, which allows users to select artists and specify variables for artist variety, music discovery, and filter preferences. The Music Tuner is accessible from the Library tab, via the New FAB (floating action button) and then Radio.

It’s important to note that the ‘Ask Music’ feature requires a YouTube Music or Music Premium subscription. As of December, the feature was available in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. Google had previously teased the expansion to more countries and iOS support, which has now begun to roll out for iOS version 8.10 and later.
