Zero Point Motion, a sensor technology startup based in Bristol, has successfully closed a £4 million pre-Series A funding round. The investment marks a pivotal moment for the company, enabling its rapid expansion and team growth as it transitions from stealth mode. During this period, the company has been developing a scalable and mass-producible process for its novel positioning and navigation sensors.
The funding round was led by investors including SCVC (the official funding arm of Science Creates), Foresight Group, and Verve Ventures. Additionally, u-blox AG, an early seed round investor, remains a key strategic partner and customer. Zero Point Motion’s groundbreaking advancements in motion sensing are poised to significantly impact various sectors, particularly defense, space exploration, and autonomous systems, where precision and reliability are of utmost importance.
“Our mission is to harness light to redefine the future of sensing,” stated Dr. Lia Li, founder and CEO of Zero Point Motion. “We are collaborating with two of the leading foundries globally to push MEMS performance to its limits. With the backing of top-tier investors and partners, we are fully focused on delivering our inertial sensors to customers who require the highest levels of precision and reliability. Furthermore, we have enhanced our in-house integration and packaging R&D capabilities, significantly reducing iteration times from eight weeks to just one day. This agility, combined with our expanding patent portfolio, including multiple newly granted patents, ensures that we remain at the forefront of innovation. Our next major milestone is product qualification and customer deployment.”
Zero Point Motion has garnered recognition, being named one of Sifted’s ‘16 Bristol-based Startups to Watch.’ The company has also secured substantial funding from government and EU sources, including £1.3 million from the UK’s Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) in 2023, followed by a €2.4 million grant from the European Innovation Council Accelerator program.
Harry Destecroix MBE, the founder of Science Creates and a co-founder and managing partner at SCVC, commented: “We are delighted to support Zero Point Motion as they develop a truly category-defining technology. By applying cutting-edge quantum approaches to motion sensing, Lia and her team are unlocking tremendous potential for industries such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, and consumer electronics. Lia is an exceptional founder whose technical expertise, vision, and leadership make her precisely the kind of entrepreneur we are eager to support.”
