Amazon’s autonomous vehicle division, Zoox, has issued its second software recall this month to address concerns regarding pedestrian detection and safety. The recall affects 270 vehicles equipped with Automated Driving Systems software versions released before May 21. The update follows a crash involving a Zoox robotaxi in San Francisco earlier this month. According to the report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the software update aims to improve how Zoox vehicles track nearby pedestrians and prevent movement when someone is close. On May 8, an unoccupied Zoox robotaxi was involved in a collision when struck by an electric vehicle. Zoox has since updated its software to address the identified issues.
